Using Cashbook Complete on Mac or Linux
Cashbook Complete has been designed to run on Microsoft Windows.
Although the software can be configured to work on Mac and Linux systems, we cannot
provide technical support for issues regarding Mac or Linux configurations.
Mac Users
Cashbook Complete will run on a PowerPC-based Mac using third-party "Virtual PC" software.
On an Intel-Mac, you will need to use a program called "Parallels Desktop
for Mac". Linux Users
Cashbook Complete will run on a Linux system. Please read the notes
below for more information on how to install Cashbook Complete on a Linux
system.
- Install the Linux system of your choice
- As 'root', install the latest Wine package from
www.winehq.com for
your distribution
- Run the following command as a normal user from a command prompt:
$ winecfg
Hint: Do not type in the "$", that is a Unix method of indicating
commands are to be run as a 'normal user', not the 'root user' (which
would be indicated with a "#" in front of the command)
- This will set up a fake windows environment inside your "/home/<yourname>"
folder and present you with a Windows panel with some configuration
options. There should be no need to change anything in there, but
we suggest making sure you are emulating "Windows XP"
- Navigate to the location where you downloaded the Cashbook Complete
setup (.exe) file
- Install the "cshbk520d.exe" using the command line: $ wine
cshbk502d.exe
Note: At the time of writing this, the latest version of Cashbook
Complete is "Version 5.02d" as indicated by the filename
"cshbk502d.exe". Please adjust the command (above) according to
the version of the file you have downloaded.
- The setup program will run as if it was installing into Windows
- When the setup program finishes, uncheck (disable) the option to run
Cashbook straight after the setup finishes
- Issue the following command: $ wget
http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
- Followed by the following command: $chmod +x winetricks
- Install "dcom98" using the command: $ ./winetricks dcom98
- Cashbook Complete will now be fully functional and can be started
using
the link provided by Wine on your desktop
NOTE: Please also follow these additional steps to configure
Wine's regional settings properly:-
- When wine is first run, it creates a hidden folder inside the home
directory of the user account
from which it is run. The folder name will be named .wine
(note the full stop in front
of the word wine - this is what makes the folder hidden)
- Inside the .wine folder, you will find a text file named "user.reg"
- Open "user.reg" with a regular text editor
- Look for the [Control Panel\\International] section
- Finally, find the corresponding entries and change them to match the
following, then Save and Exit.
"iCountry"="64"
"iPaperSize"="9"
"sCountry"="New Zealand"
Essentially, all of the above steps can be simplified as follows:-
- Install Wine
- Perform the Wine first run routine
- Install Cashbook Complete using the Wine Interpreter
- Install WineTricks
- Install "dcom98" using WineTricks
- Start using Cashbook Complete
Note: These steps have been proven to work with Wine Version
0.9.59, but should work with earlier versions, too.
